Birthday Wishes
From your friends and family
Three years ago today at 8:24am the doctor placed a beautiful little baby boy on my chest and my life as I knew it, would never be the same again.Rockford Miles Ramirez, my son, was 7 pounds 7 ounces and 21 inches long and perfect, for me. Throughout his little life he has been blessed to be surrounded with a loving community of friends and family. This is another letter to my son.
Dear Rockford,
Today is your third birthday and we are celebrating your day at Disneyland. By now mommy is probably complaining about how hot the sun is, that reminds me of something you always say when the sun is in your eyes, “Ouch, the sun is looking at my eyes!” These last three years have been filled with memories like these and many learning moments for Mama and Dada that have brought so much joy and maturity to us.
You may or may not know this by now, but you are surrounded and being raised by a community of people that love you. This community is made of your family, friends and our church, The Chapel. This is why I thought it was a great time to share these pictures of your little white wooden chair that was made for your 1st birthday (in case you or your brother break it by the time you read this).
You’ll probably not remember your first birthday, but we had over one hundred friends and family members in our backyard. All were here to celebrate a day of joy for us. They signed this wooden chair for you with loving thoughts and they are still the people today that are praying, teaching and raising you. Many of these families already have grown up sons or daughters that have the character, faith and values I hope you grow up to hone. We are forever thankful that God blessed you and us with this community.
“I thank my God upon every remembrance of you, always in every prayer of mine making request for you all with joy, for your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now”
Philippians 1:3-5
Son, today you are three years old and to us adults that may seem so miniscule in comparison to our many years of life and experiences, but already you have accomplished so much. You are not even aware of the places you’ve been, the people you’ve met and the accolades you’ve earned. Such a little soul, with so much experience you are.
You are coming to your own now as your nicknames have ranged from “My Sunshine” (for always caring a smile), “Benjamin Button” (for acting like a little old man sometimes), to “Rockford the Rockstar”(well, we have the plethora of Google pages to prove it to you). I know there are still more phases and nicknames to come and I can’t wait to live out those days with you.
They say it takes a village to raise a child and I am thankful for the community the Lord has blessed us with to raise you to grow up to be a man of integrity, a man with manners and a man after God’s heart. Son, nothing in the world you do will make your daddy and me more proud than to know you are walking with the Lord.
“I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.”
~III John 1:4
Happy Birthday son and may God grant you many many more years of joy, laughter and growth. I am eternally grateful and humbled to have the privilege to be your mother.
Love,
Mama
