Techie Toddlers

15 Feb

On Valentine’s day (as luck would have it) I found myself sitting in a doctor’s waiting room filled with ill droopy-eyed children, including my 9 month-old Rocco. I thought to myself, this room is not as loud and active as it usually is.  Then I realized why, several of the kids were being distracted/entertained with a gadget of some sort, Nintendo DS, iPhone, iPod etc. One of these kids being my own 2 1/2-year-old Rockford. It got me thinking, when did our kids become so tech savvy? Is that a good or bad thing? When is technology too much for young children?

unsung “LITTLE” heroes

10 Feb

Let’s hear it for the boy!

They say each kid has his or her own personality. Some kids are very mellow and easy-going. Then there are kids who are very energetic and leave you feeling like a tornado just struck the room and you feel tired just watching them. Some kids crave the stoplight and want to recite for you everything they know, while others shrug and hide behind their mom’s leg just to escape being the center of attention. Some kids pay attention to detail and carefully pick up their toys, other kids don’t even notice toys tossed every wich way and want to kick and squash every thing in sight.  Thank God for all these differences, chances are you probably recognize one or more of your kids’ personality here. Some will use their personalities for their future tasks, callings and/or carriers. I don’t want to jump ahead of myself, so I’ll just focus on how some kids are blossoming into their future adult self as we speak.

Mamas Running Amok

Mama needs a chill pill

On several occasions I feel boggled down with the heavy-never ending list of to do’s.  On these days, I know my kids get the short end of the stick and in the greater scheme of things, those little “to do” things really didn’t matter. I sometimes take for granted the gift of multitasking and run myself ragged and my kids end up as collateral damage. Let me make this a little bit more colorful.

Baby Blues comic strip 2/06/11

Baby Blues by Rick Kirkman & Jerry Scott

Can you relate to this or what? I thought it was hilarious as I know Rockford and daddy always get into a negotiation when dinner is ending for us and Rockford has yet to touch his food. Daddy, “Take 4 more bites”. Rockford, “How about 2?” Daddy, “How about 5?” Rockford, “How about 4?”  That’s right, Daddy always wins.   So what’s your story?

Helicopters Hovering ha ha ha

A little Logic and Love goes a long way

On a beautiful San Diego day, that also happens to be “Free Tuesday” at Balboa Park, I opted to take the boys to see a couple of museums.  If asked which to see Rockford will answer in a heartbeat, “Railroad Museum to see trains!” Actually it’s the Model Railroad Museum but he couldn’t care less what it’s called. He knows there are trains there and that’s that.
