Our Trip to Lake Cuyamaca

Lake Cuyamaca - boy in lake- ducks- family adventure

What a beautiful nature adventure just 50 miles east of San Diego. Our boys had a blast watching the ducks, geese, coyote, and deer. Yes, there is a coyote the locals call “the shy coyote” and true to his name he saw us and ran off to hide.

My boys fed the ducks and geese, climbed trees, hiked some trails, threw rocks into the lake, and ran around up and down the pier.  Who says fun family adventures have to be costly? We ate lunch at our loca In-and-Out before heading there and then had dinner at home.

When (not if, but when) we vist Lake Cuyamaca again, I’ll be sure to pack us a picnic, enjoy rowing a boat with the family, and again take in all the beauty that beckons you to come again.

We are on a mission to rediscover our city and parks nearby one family adventure at a time. Please share with us a trip you think we should take.

Our Annie’s Canyon Trail Adventure

6 Nov trail walk Annie's canyon trail adventure

If you are ever in San Diego, CA and enjoy hiking, this is one nature trail to take located in San Elijo Lagoon County Park and Ecological Reserve.

Hubby wanted to surprise the boys and me with a little nature walk and didn’t mention certain “strenuous” parts of the trail. Oh man, I think you can hear me running out of breath a couple of times (hey, I was also trying to record and talk to ya’ll).

In the end, this hiking trail was beautiful; it was surrounded with trees, a lagoon, and the magnificent boulders.

We hope to instill in our boys the desire to explore and be adventurous and curious about the world indoors and outdoors. There is so much to discover and so much to appreciate when we are open to it.

We love adventure and would any cool places you can recommend us. We are planning a trip to Yosemite Park in the spring so let us know what’s along the way!

When you think you have it all together and your kid thinks you suck you got yourself a big fat “Mom Fail”.

One month into homeschooling and I apparently have not been doing as great as a job as I thought. Nothing ails a parent more than to see your child upset and when it’s your fault it’s even more disheartening.

Have you ever encountered this in parenting or in homeschooling? What happened and how did you handle with your child?

We’ve been wanting a strawberry garden for some time now so we finally decided to set out to our local Home Depot and create our own custom strawberry garden.

Every errand and trip with my kiddos is an adventure in itself. Funny, kids will always find something to amuse themselves with.

I hope you can see all the items used to create our garden. One thing not shown here is our drip system. You can water it yourself or add a drip system to ensure there is enough moister for plants. All material was purchased at Home Depot and put together by hubby.

Do you have a garden? If so, what do you think is the biggest challenge maintaining it?

Motherhood is one big detour

16 Oct

In 2011 I started this blog, Training Up My Boys to capture the funny, moving, and learning experiences of motherhood. But as is life, I took a detour to and paused it to go back to school and earn a Master’s.
