Bringing up my Boys

Training Up my Boys

Hello all and thank you for stopping by. I always heard of the saying, “kids say the darndest things,” and I truth be told I always looked forward to that after my first son was born. I bring this up because that is actually what motivated me to start this blog. I started sharing some of these quirky, funny and moving moments with you guys on Facebook, but I always maxed out the allowable characters usage (that’s super annoying am I right?). My sister actually suggested I start a blog and the light switch went on…I could do that, so, here we are.

My boys are a joy and the journey of motherhood is a 24/7 task that I am not worthy of.  At times it may seem overwhelming, but I know the designer and creator of my boys will  give me the wisdom and patience to be the best mother He has called me to be. My Lord and Savior Jesus Christ knows I am the best mother and teacher for my boys and therefore has entrusted them to me just as He entrusted yours to you. What a responsibility! God is our ALL in our home and as you read these posts you see how my 2 and 1/2 tries to articulate his thoughts and all he is learning about Him and sometimes, it’s pretty darn funny.  Let me share one with you.

The other day I laid down my two and half-year old, Rockford (by the way the other one is Rocco and is 8 months) to change his poopy diaper. Actually, he is “potty trained” but refuses to use the toilet to poop (is it like this for your kid too?). Anyways, I laid him down to change his diaper and as he is laying there he placed both hands over his heart and said, “I have Jesus right here in my heart.”  Actually he had his hands on his neck, but I got the point. I was moved and recalled his last Sunday school lesson project I had hanging on our refrigerator. God bless our Sunday school teachers.

Through my children the Lord has taught me a lot of about His relationship with me, His love towards me and His amazing design of life and it blows my mind! I’ll share with you some of the books I am reading, articles I’ve come across and broadcasts I’ve listened to that have help shape and create the environment for my children to bring them up on a solid foundation. I would LOVE for you to please give me your recommendations or suggestions on what you are reading, watching, and listening to.

I hope to be a blessing to anyone who reads this even if it just gets you to smile for the day, then I know we (my children and I) have brought you a snip bit of joy for the day. I would love to hear your stories, tips and encouragement because like I recently told my dear friend, “We don’t get a grade or an evaluation to see how we are doing,” most of the time we are too busy just trying not to lose our mind. Humor! Humor always helps and I thank God for helping me get through some discouraging moments by bringing laughter into the room. Like the other day when I starting the day on a bad note and was half hazardously trying to get ready then Rockford walks in with a big smile and says, “pretty mama!” I was immediately laughing and in a new state of mind.  Let’s try to get on the right state of mind and be a blessing to our kids and each other.

My boys Mom,

Mama Raquel
