Boys are Doers

“But be doers of the word, and not hearers only”

 James 1:22

Being a mother comes with its share of responsibility. Being a mother of boys has come with its share of unique responsibilities that never crossed my mind until my older son started growing up. I went nuts trying to figure out how we were going to instill all the qualities that make up good character. How would we do this before he hit eighteen? Continue reading

A special note

I recently picked up a new book that I started reading, Parenting with Love and Logic : Teaching Children Responsibility by Foster Cline, M.D. and Jim Fay. I bought it used on Amazon.com.  It seems this book has been around the block a few times by the “for sale” sticker on the back, the letter written inside the front cover by a loved one and the fact that it’s missing the paper cover. I guess that’s why I lucked out and got it for $0.43.

It seems this book has made its rounds and made it home to me. I couldn’t help but read the inside handwritten letter that I can only imagine was written by the father of the book recipient’s baby. I know this was written as a personal note, but it became public domain when they sold it. It is a lovely note and I wanted to share it with you.

A letter to my boys

A just because letter

I decided to write this letter to my sons today because I wanted them to know just how special they are.  Today we finally brought down the storage bin that contained my older son’s clothes for ages 12 -18 months. These clothes were to also be Rocco’s when he grew old enough or big enough to fit into them…that moment has come.

He Lubs Jesus

It is no surprise that our home loves the Lord Jesus Christ. We sing about and to Him, listen to radio to hear broadcasts about Him, we read His Word, we pray to Him, and my husband and I try to instill God’s principles in our children’s lives. However, what my son Rockford gets from all this can sometimes be a little interesting to hear from him as he tries to regurgitate his understanding of Jesus. I wanted to share these lovely and funny Rockford Theology-isms with you to delight with me as my son grows everyday to one day become a man after God’s heart.

So today I am laying Rockford down and he says, “I have Jesus in my heart right here”. This was awesome. He was actually pointing to his neck, but I got the point.

unsung “LITTLE” heroes

Let’s hear it for the boy!

They say each kid has his or her own personality. Some kids are very mellow and easy-going. Then there are kids who are very energetic and leave you feeling like a tornado just struck the room and you feel tired just watching them. Some kids crave the stoplight and want to recite for you everything they know, while others shrug and hide behind their mom’s leg just to escape being the center of attention. Some kids pay attention to detail and carefully pick up their toys, other kids don’t even notice toys tossed every wich way and want to kick and squash every thing in sight.  Thank God for all these differences, chances are you probably recognize one or more of your kids’ personality here. Some will use their personalities for their future tasks, callings and/or carriers. I don’t want to jump ahead of myself, so I’ll just focus on how some kids are blossoming into their future adult self as we speak.
